Rockstar Ends 2024 Strong with Red Dead Redemption PC Release
After 14 years, the original Red Dead Redemption is coming to PC, along with new content for Red Dead Online.
- Red Dead Redemption is finally getting a fully optimized PC port on October 29, 2024, ending a 14-year wait.
- Red Dead Online received a significant October update, adding new challenges, cosmetics, and Halloween modes.
- While post-launch content for RDR2 has been sparse, these updates signal a potential positive shift for the franchise going into 2025.
The Red Dead Redemption series has always been a major player for Rockstar, standing toe-to-toe with Grand Theft Auto and carving out its own place in gaming history. A lot of its success comes from Rockstar’s obsessive attention to detail, but that also means fans spend ages in limbo, waiting for the next fix. It’s almost like a cruel joke—give us greatness, then make us wait.
Even with the insane success of RDR2, we’ve seen little fresh content for years. Sure, we get it—Rockstar’s been busy hyping up the launch of GTA 6, but to be honest with you, Red Dead Redemption 2 didn’t exactly hit all the notes in its post-launch life.

That’s slowly shifting, though, as the last months of 2024 drop some exciting updates. Maybe, just maybe, the franchise will start looking brighter going into 2025.
With over 65 million copies sold and the game being hailed as one of the best story-driven experiences in recent memory, RDR2 was supposed to set the world on fire post-launch. Instead, we got… well, not much. Fans were dying for a remaster of the original Red Dead Redemption, and what did we get? Ports.
Like, hey, let’s slap it on the Nintendo Switch and call it a day. That’s great if you’re a Switch fan, but it doesn’t exactly scream, “We care about this franchise.”
Then there’s the DLC situation—or lack of it. GTA 5 at least had GTA Online to keep the cash flowing. But RDR2? Nada. It’s a story-driven masterpiece, and yet, no story-driven DLC? Talk about a missed opportunity. Back in the day, the original Red Dead gave us Undead Nightmare, which is still hailed as one of the best DLCs ever. And for RDR2? Nothing. Just a tumbleweed blowing by.
What’s Happening Lately?
Things looked good for Red Dead Online at first. Everyone thought, “Hey, this could be our source of fresh RDR2 content!” But then 2022 hit, and Rockstar basically threw in the towel. No more major updates for RDO. Just seasonal events and community-created content. Not exactly the post-launch content people had in mind.
Despite these setbacks, things are picking up speed. In a major win for PC players, Red Dead Redemption (yes, the 2010 one) is finally coming to PC on October 29. It’s about time, considering it’s been a 14-year wait. This is huge—especially for players who’ve been asking for it since forever.
And if that wasn’t enough, Red Dead Online got a solid update in October, packed with new challenges, cosmetics, and limited-time Halloween modes. Sure, it’s not the story DLC we’ve all been dreaming of, but it’s clear Rockstar is inching in the right direction.
They still have a long way to go before RDR2 lives up to all the expectations, but at least 2024 is ending on a positive note for once.
The iconic sequel to Banjo-Kazooie is launching on October 25, now with widescreen support.
