  • Rumor claims GTA 6 has been delayed to early/mid-2026, with PC release 12-18 months after consoles.
  • Jason Schreier hasn’t confirmed or denied the delay but hinted he’s not ready to comment yet.
  • Liam, the source of the rumor, faced backlash but insists multiple developers confirmed the info.
The Essentials

There’s a rumor circulating about Grand Theft Auto 6 that no one wants to believe. But it’s out there, and people are freaking out. Liam, also known as billsyliamgta, a member of GTA Base Staff, dropped a bombshell tweet:

“EXCLUSIVE: GTA VI has been internally delayed by Rockstar Games and they’re already set on an early to mid-2026 release window. PC release planned 12 – 18 months after console launch. This info comes from multiple devs across two studios.”

Naturally, this caught fire fast. But, as you’d expect, there’s a whole army of people trying to shut it down. The tweet has already been slapped with a community note, and a subreddit is screaming that it’s been “debunked.” Yet, after a little digging on our part, the story’s not as dead as they’d like you to believe.

Apparently, Liam reached out to Jason Schreier, gaming’s own truth detective, asking for his two cents on the matter. Schreier, who’s usually pretty vocal, replied:

“I have never said anything about commenting on this tomorrow or at all.”

Yeah, Jason didn’t exactly jump at the chance to shut it down either. Shortly after, he tweeted again to clear the air:

“Way too many people interpreting this as ‘Jason says there’s no delay’ when all I said is that I never said anything about commenting on it.”

Then, to top it off, he added, “I’m not confirming or denying anything.” If you’ve been following Schreier long enough, that basically translates to, “something’s cooking, but I can’t touch it yet.”

Meanwhile, Liam’s been dealing with a lot of heat for his claim. People went full internet on him, and he had to fire back with another tweet:

“I messaged Jason expecting a response, but apparently that’s not happening—yet. I meant to say ‘he may comment tomorrow’ in my tweet. My bad.”

It’s easy to be skeptical of Liam, especially since he’s not exactly a known name in the rumor game. But that doesn’t automatically mean he’s wrong. Schreier’s half-cryptic responses point to two possibilities: either he knows something and isn’t allowed to spill it yet, or he’s as in the dark as the rest of us and has to dig into it himself.

If you’re wondering why Schreier’s being so cagey, it’s probably because opening his mouth could burn his sources. This wouldn’t be the first time something like this has happened. Remember the Black Myth Wukong exclusivity deal rumor? People were so sure it was fake, only for more sources to back it up later.

Here’s the truth no one wants to hear 👉 when it comes to rumors, things can flip fast. No matter how many “sources” you’ve got, rumors live in a gray area. Game companies and gamers? Yeah, they don’t always see eye to eye. If someone like Schreier gives weight to a rumor, it could tank stock prices or mess with consumer expectations. On the other hand, gamers might blow money on consoles or pre-orders for games that don’t launch when expected. It’s a lose-lose scenario.

For someone like Liam, spilling what he knows is pretty much a thankless gig. And honestly, after this, I wouldn’t blame people for keeping GTA 6 rumors to themselves. If Rockstar stays silent, we’ll need someone like Schreier to get to the bottom of this one.

What’s next? We wait. Rockstar’s not the type to give us a heads-up anytime soon, and until they do, we’re left with the rumor mill grinding away.
