The Essentials

Asmongold just dropped a bombshell—he’s stepping away from OTK and Starforge Systems, the two companies he co-owns. This all came out during a lengthy apology video, which, let’s be real, didn’t exactly come out of nowhere. It follows a controversy that exploded after Asmongold made some seriously inflammatory comments about the conflict in the Middle East between Israel and Hamas. He called Palestinians “terrible people” and threw in a bunch of other choice words that, unsurprisingly, resulted in his ban from Twitch.

On October 14, Asmongold got on his soapbox and went on a rant about how Palestinians are from an “inferior culture” that “kills people for their identity.” His words drew the kind of backlash you’d expect, and Twitch wasn’t far behind with the ban hammer, targeting his alt channel ZackRawrr the very next day. What followed was a 20-minute apology video, where Asmongold repeatedly apologized for his statements. But, somewhere in the middle of it, he dropped the news about stepping down from his leadership roles at OTK and Starforge Systems.

Now Asmongold himself admits he’s been spiraling for the past couple of years. He claimed he’s been “devolving” during this time, and it’s not like his friends and family haven’t noticed—they’ve apparently been telling him to “calm down.” To be fair, though, he doesn’t think he’s been wrong about everything, but he did say some of his recent takes, including the Palestine rant, were, in his words, “indefensible.”

His reasoning for stepping down? It’s all part of an attempt to clean up his act. Asmongold says the best way to make up for the mess he’s made is to “get his life in order” and start making more positive content. He’s done with the negativity (allegedly) and wants to shift toward laughing with people rather than at them. He even hopes that his viewers will get a “better version” of him moving forward. Big promises, but only time will tell if he can pull it off. His ZackRawrr channel ban might slow that down a bit, though.

But no one knows yet if this new direction means he’ll stop commenting on all the drama in the streamer world. That’s been a pretty big part of his content, and we all know Asmongold loves a good controversy. There’s also the question of whether this content shift will affect his role in the anti-woke crowd online. After all, that’s the space where he admitted he became the worst version of himself.

Whether he can pull off this transformation or not, one thing’s for sure—he’s left his fans with a lot of questions.
